1. The Founding of Udaipur:
Udaipur, also known as the “City of Lakes,” was founded in 1559 by Maharana Udai Singh II, a Sisodia Rajput ruler. Legend has it that Udai Singh was guided by a sage to establish his kingdom on the fertile banks of Lake Pichola. This marked the beginning of Udaipur’s legacy as a princely state and a centre of Rajput culture and heritage.
2. The Glorious Rajput Dynasty:
Under the patronage of the Mewar dynasty, Udaipur flourished as a seat of power and grandeur. In 1576, Maharana Pratap, the 13th ruler of Mewar, valiantly fought against the Mughal emperor Akbar’s forces led by General Man Singh. Although outnumbered, Maharana Pratap’s unwavering spirit and bravery continue to inspire generations, making Haldighati a symbol of courage and resilience.
